It had been a week since the accident, a minor error in judgement on Castor's part which had led to some pretty catastrophic consequences. However the on going investigation seemed to be finding that even if he did bare some of the responsibility, it wasn't all his, some lay with the other navigator or rather his craft. Not all the details were clear yet.
What was clear however was that he was being reassigned. He knew why, they couldn't leave any spare navigators or fighters, everyone needed to be in teams, as many teams as possible. There would be losses, this was a dangerous mission after all, but there wasn't much time to grieve. To Castor however, even though he understood it, it felt like a betrayal. His fighter wasn't dead, but there was no telling when or if he'd wake up either. It felt like a betrayal being reassigned. Having to get used to a new fighter all over again, in enemy space no less....If they couldn't work together, it could lead to an even bigger catastrophe. Pollux had been his first, and he'd been luckier than most, they'd gotten on, they'd been compatible. Some navigators went through fighters pretty quickly, and went through many before finding someone they were compatible with.
He sighed as he entered commander Cook's office to find out who he was now to be assigned to. He wasn't sure that he was emotionally ready for this. 5 days in physical recovery, 2 additional days personal leave, and now he was being thrown together with a complete stranger. He saluted as he entered, and while they waited for his new fighter, the commander asked about his recovery, but didn't delve too deeply. There were still bandages on his face and neck, as well as ones unseen around his shoulders underneath his uniform. At least he didn't need a sling for his arm.

Fenrir had finally been let out of the brig after having only spent a week in soldiery confinement. He had welcomed the solitude the cold grey walls had provided, the peace of being able to rest with ease knowing he was completely alone in the cell. Fenrir knew his days in the temporary sanctuary were numbered, there was no evidence that he had murdered his Navigator. He had made sure of that.
After being release he had been told to report straight to Commander Cook’s office to be assigned a new Navigator. However it didn’t surprise him, they were deep into enemy space and part of him pondered the notion if he would of been reassigned even if he had been caught red handed killing the pathetic excuse for a human.
Before entering the office, Fenrir took the time to smooth out his uniform and run his slender fingers through his wild black hair. What kind of navigator would they partnering him up this time? Surely they weren’t all pricks like his last one.
Fenrir offered a crisp salute as he came to a stop next to Castor, amber red eyes sizing up the Navigator that he was most likely going to be assigned too.

"At ease," Commander Cook said when Fenrir saluted. "I'm sure I need not explain why either of you are here. After respective incidents you have both been left without partners. Even though Castor's original fighter is merely in a coma, we can't afford to wait for him to wake up. If he does, his condition may still be...Non-tenable. We need all the personal we can get, so we have deemed it fit to pair you two together," he explained, though it seemed he had no intention of divulging Fenrir's circumstances. "Fenrir, Castor, from this moment on you two are a team, your fighter is the Gemini, a ship that Castor is already familiar with, but which requires repairs after the incident a week ago." Castor seemed to shift uncomfortably at the mention. "I expect you both to cooperate, and work together. We don't have the luxury of reassigning you if things 'don't work out' out here." As he spoke he gave Fenrir a cold hard look, a suggestion without words. There might not be any hard evidence of his crime, but a second navigator assigned to him dying under suspicious circumstance would be taken as such.
"Am I understood?" He asked, prompting Castor to acknowledge. "The Gemini is not yet battle ready, Castor I expect you to make it such as fast as possible, it should be your main priority, your other tasks can be held off for the time being." Again Castor acknowledged.
After that they were dismissed. Castor saluted before leaving, waiting just enough time to know that Fenrir was following him. They'd also been assigned a room together was was regulation. Castor sighed as they reached the door. It felt wrong to him to work with someone other than Pollux, and it made him nervous. He knew not all Fighters were 'nice'....Well neither were all Navigators. Still fighters in general had a bad rep for being violent or thugish. Fortunately for Fenrir, Castor wasn't aware of the crime he'd been accused of, his own accident had pretty much coincided with the murder. He'd probably find out soon enough though. Fighters and navigators alike, liked to gossip.
He opened the door, it looked the same. All the rooms on the sleipnir did, small, cramped and with bunked beds against one all to conserve space. He walked in, no point standing in the door all day.

Fenrir glance briefly at his new Navigator Castor when cook mentioned the incident about the ship. That probably explained the bandages on Castor’s face and neck. It did make Fenrir question the skills of his new Navigator…he didn’t like having his life in someone else’s hands. The Fighter never acknowledge the cold hard look that Cook cast his way, but instead nodded his understand that he should try to cooperate with his new Navigator.
He followed Castor to their newly assigned room, cramped like all the rest, but still bigger then the cell he had been confined in. At least the bed was padded. In a fluid motion Fenrir had removed his jacket and slung it on the top bunk, claiming it for his own. If he had a chance to assert his dominance in this new pairing, perhaps things would go a little more smoothly then the last Navigator.
“Rule 1: Don’t fuck with me and I won’t fuck with you.” Fenrir voice was low and a little rough around the edges. He stripped his shirt off and threw it next to his jacket on the top bunk. He was slender and lean with well defined muscles that rippled gently down his physique. Across his skin were intricate designs of stylized wolves, vines, branches, and roots all tattooed with various pigments and complimenting his tan skin.
“Rule 2: Don’t fuck with my things.” He continued to strip until he was naked in front, again throwing his pants and boots onto the top bunk. “Rule 3: Don’t get us killed. Simple, eh? I’m taking a shower.” He turned in the tiny space and entered the even smaller bathroom and shower. He hadn’t had a decent shower in a week and the warm water felt good.

Honestly all Fenrir had to do was ask, and Castor would have obliged. As it was he took the non-verbal cue, and sat down on the bottom bunk. There wasn't anywhere else to sit, and not much standing room either. Not like it mattered, he didn't usually spend much time in his quarters anyway. It definitely looked like he wouldn't have much time over the next few days to relax either, if he was going to get the Gemini in working order. He looked up the moment Fenrir actually started to talk to him, frowning at the crudeness and keeping his blue eyes firmly on Fenrir's face as he stripped down.
Rule three hit him with a strong pang of guilt. It made it obvious that Fenrir clearly didn't trust him, and perhaps didn't trust his skill either. It reminded him of how the collision that had landed Pollux in the hospital was at least in part his own fault. He needed to do better, especially out here. "Nice to meet you too," he sighed under his breath. Well if he broke rule 3, it wasn't like there would be anything Fenrir could do to him about it. Not really much of a consolation though. Guess it was true what they said, some Fighters were just thuggish assholes that needed to be in charge. It was certainly a rarer quality in navigators...Though some tried hard to be the exception.
As Fenrir showered, Castor pulled out his personal computer, he brought up the current schematics and damage reports of the Gemini. The outside had already been repaired, it was just the inside he needed to focus on. It would probably take a couple of days if he worked as long as possible...At least Keeler couldn't hover over his shoulder in the ship bay. There was nothing wrong with the lead navigator per-say, but he could be rather.....Mother hen like at times.

The Fighter just stood in the shower letting the warm water cascade down his head. He hated being on this ship, hated being in space, hated being just a dog on a leash. But if he made it through this hell at least he would have a pardon and the freedom to go where he wanted. Also it appeared that his new Navigator wasn’t the controlling abusive prick his last one was. He had done his best to tolerate the abusive partnership…He paused his thought, clearing his head. No need to linger on the dead prick now.
Fenrir got out of the shower, dried off and started getting dressed again in the same clothes he had just discard earlier. His extra uniform and all of his personal items, what little he had were in storage for the time being. He would have to get them later. When he was finished dressing he folded his arms and leaned against the bulkhead near the hatch and studied Castor’s face. Fenrir’s hair was still dripping wet however and the medium length tendrils clung to the sides of his face, framing his slender red eyes.
Maybe he had come across a bit rough, but he sure as hell didn’t want a repeat of history. Fighter’s always had to hold their own against each other, so he figured the same was true of Navigators. Perhaps he was wrong.
“Do you want help with Gemini?” He offered. Getting to know his new Navigator’s personality was high on his ‘to do’ list. And what better way to learn then by helping out with repairs.

By the time Fenrir came out of the shower, Castor was completely engrossed in what he was doing. Move things about his screen, enlarging them to get a better look. He was going to have to go down to the hanger to get a real look at his craft really, there was only so much the schematic could show him. As far as Navigators went, most tried to cooperate with each other, there were exceptions, those who had personal agendas and vendettas against others. Some wanted to be on top, just like the Fighters and didn't like competition. Jealousy of course was also a factor. Castor just wanted to be able to do his job, and do it well. He didn't like those who deliberately tried to interfere with others, in his mind it made them all weaker, compromised even.
Castor almost jumped when Fenrir said something, he'd been paying very little heed to the Fighters presence. He was also surprised at the offer to help, given the blunt crudeness of their last 'conversation.'He closed his personal computer, they had to learn to work together, now was as good a time as any.
"Two pairs of hands will make the work go much faster," he said shutting off his personal computer and standing. Of course how fast it went depended on how competent Fenrir was when it came to mechanics, he knew not all Fighters were particularly useful in this regard. "I was thinking of going to take a look at her, I can make a better assessment in person. Come with?" He asked. He needed to get to know his Fighter as much as Fenrir needed to get to know hos Navigator. Though he'd be content to keep him at arms length...He knew they couldn't really work that way.

Fenrir couldn’t help but feel a little skeptical towards Castor’s personality. Fenrir had trust issues and the only people he knew that were nice were either dead or being manipulative. And Castor looked very much alive to him.
“Sure.” The Fighter replied. There was another motive for helping out as well. The more he knew about the ships the better off he would be…if the time ever came to steal one. You would never find him bragging about it, he knew how to pilot several different crafts, but none of them were military grade. Unless you counted stealing a military cargo transport but that hadn’t gone to exactly to plan.
In fact if he hadn’t of stolen the transport he probably still be a free man living with his group. Instead he was forcefully drafted into the Alliance as payment for his crimes, which had included the deaths of 6 of the transport’s crew. It was their own fault and Fenrir didn’t feel bad about it. That was the world he was brought up in. You do what you need to survive. Nothing else matters.

He gave Fenrir a small genuine smile. He didn't like this, but at least Fenrir was showing a willingness to help. Though the fact he may have ulterior motives, didn't even occur to Castor. He wasn't like the fighter, he had no reason to doubt his intentions. He stood up and stretched, before leading the way out of the room and down to the hanger. He said little as they walked.
Before long the doors to the hanger were sliding open, and Castor stepped inside. He looked around but noticed he couldn't see his ship. Fortunately one of the mechanics noticed him and walked right over smiling. "Castor, back at work already?" They greeted him, a definite air of familiarity between them. "Hi Johnny....Yeah can't really sit around at a time like this." "But Pollux he's still.... You were resigned?" Johnny asked, finally turning his attention briefly to Fenrir, then back to Castor. "I'm sorry, I know you two were close." Castor shook his head, he didn't really want to think about it, just wanted to get the job done. "This is Fenrir, we were assigned to each other this morning," he said finally introducing his fighter to Johnny, the engineer merely nodding by way of greeting. "Do you know where The Gemini is?" "Yeah it's over there, still in quarantine, she can't fly, but all the outside repairs are done," Johnny explained, pointing to where the ship was. "Thanks, we'll talk later." And with that Castor lead the way over to where the ship was.
From the outside it looked almost fine, the only evidence of Castor's accident was a few superficial scratches here and there. The navigator sighed as he looked at her, then took a small walk around, inspecting the outside, and looking underneath for any damage that might have been missed. Satisfied he climbed up to the cockpit, opening the fighter side first. There was damage here, though he noted that the screen had been replaced, however there were wires every where....So the fighter side still needed re-wiring at least. He find out later if the targeting system needed recalibrating...It probably would have needed that anyway, all fighters were different, just as all navigators were different. And Fenrir might not have liked Pollux's set up.
"So far, it looks like your side only needs to be re-wired and recalibrated," Castor called down to Fenrir. Closing the cockpit as he spoke. Now for his side.

Fenrir remained silent as he walked with his Navigator to the hanger, but always just a step behind. His last Navigator Tyr’ didn’t like it when he walked side by side and so walking just slightly behind had become a habit.
The Fighter watched as Johnny and Castor conversed, it seemed that his new Navigator had a good relationship with his last Fighter. That was a relief. Fenrir returned the nod to the mechanic.
Gemini looked like every other fighting ship that the Alliance had. Fenrir took his own walk around the ship, letting his fingers brush against the cold metal almost as if he was greeting it. He liked machines better then people, machine’s didn’t double cross you, or abuse you, or say an ill word. They didn’t get depressed, or angry, or happy. They just were. And it was simple to diagnose when things didn’t work, not like people at all.
So far, it looks like your side only needs to be re-wired and recalibrated,
He was about to tell Castor that he could recalibrate the targeting system himself, when an arm encircled his shoulder and placed him in a head lock. Heavy Russian words twisted from Fenrir’s mouth in surprise.
“I was starting to wonder if they tossed you out the airlock!” A robust voice laughed as a knuckle roughly rubbed into Fenrir’s head. “But instead they reassigned you. Glad of that.” Fenrir managed to pull himself free of the other Fighter and gave a faint smile to Odin, an older larger brutish looking Fighter.
“So you’re his new Navigator? Don’t let his unfriendly disposition fool you, he’s quite likable.” Odin pulled a candy out of his pocket and presented it to Fenrir, the younger Fighter snatched it from Odin’s fingers and shoved it into his jacket pocket. While other Fighters had a habit of smoking, Fenrir had a horrible sweet tooth. The younger Fighter stalked away from Odin to the other side of the ship mumbling under his breath again in his native tongue.
“If he gives you any problems let me know, his last Navigator was a dick. It might take some time for him to warm up to you.” Odin laughed hardly and waved at the pair as he departed.
Fenrir walked back over to the side Castor was on, arms crossed over his chest and glared at Odin as he left, the stick of a lollipop held tightly between his lips, sucking on the candy Odin had just given him. It was a complicated relationship between the two Fighters and although Fenrir would deny it, Odin was like a father figure to him.

While the sudden appearance of another fighter caught him by surprise, the playful rough housing did not. He was used to seeing Pollux behave in a similar way. Though he knew it wasn't always fun and games with fighters, especially the ones that liked to think of themselves as in charge. Though he frowned when the older fighter mentioned fearing his Fenrir has been thrown out an airlock. He didn't know his knew fighters history, but his disposition, along with what he assumed was an implication he'd spent a spell in the brig was....Concerning. Even when the other fighter tried to reassure him that Fenrir as 'quite likeable'. Well they'd soon see if that was true, thinks didn't look that promising right now.
He vaguely wondered who Fenrir's last navigator was, though there was no end of assholes in the ranks of Navigators or Fighters. Though the two sides seemed to have different ways of being assholes. He wasn't going to ask though, it wasn't his business and he shouldn't pry. He gave the other fighter a weary wave as he left them to it. It reassured him a little that he could at least go to this older fighter if he had any trouble, how likely he was to actually do that was up for debate though. There wasn't a whole lot of mingling between Navigators and Fighters despite the fact they all had to work together.
He looked back to his new fighter when he came back over, and barely managed to stifle a chuckle at the sight of him angrily sucking on a lolly. The smallest hint of the sound escaped him. It was...Kind of cute, hard angry fighter, with a sweet tooth. "Well back to work then?" He asked trying to refocus.
He climbed back up the ladder and this time dropped down into the navigator side. It was his fighter, but it didn't feel like it anymore. A lot of it had been refurbished on his side, and it had that 'new' smell, he sighed a little sadly at that. There was no re-wiring to be done, and only some minor reprograming. Johnny had said the Gemini wasn't capable of flight which indicated a fault with the engine, or at least in it's connection to the controls. He'd have to give that more thought later.

In his sweetened disgruntled state the small sound startled Fenrir and he found himself frozen in Castor's gaze. It was only after his Navigator suggested they get back to work did the Fighter feel the warmth flood his face and Fenrir was grateful when Castor climbed the ladder.
Part of him wanted to leave the hanger right then and there, escape while he had the chance from any further interaction but instead he found himself ready to climb the ladder. It was an intense internal struggle over such a little thing. He rolled the lollipop around in his mouth.
With a huge breath he began to climb the ladder, cursing each rung that he didn't just leave instead. Why couldn't he of just come up with a clever lie, some excuse or better yet, walked away. But here he was, climbing the ladder. When he got to the top he might of seemed a little more grumpier then he did on the floor.
"So what's the verdict?" Fenrir pulled the candy from his lips before popping it back into his mouth. The cherry flavoring made the vast nothingness of space a little more colorful to the Russian and made life a little more bearable. And perhaps the candy made him see the better part of him staying. The more compatible they were together, the more likely they were to survive out there.
His last Navigator had tested the very boundaries of compatibility. The Fighter had done everything to try to ignore the things done to him, after all - he basically belonged to the Alliance. He was already serving time. Fenrir knew Commander Cook knew the physical torment Tyr had inflicted him with, that's why Fenrir was so quick to end up in the Brig.
But Castor certainly didn't seem the type and it made Fenrir feel a little refreshed in this gloomy tin can in space.

Honestly he was tempted to test the connection to the engine right there, but the possibility of a more serious malfunction kept Castor from doing so. Didn't want to wreck it all over again. He looked up when he heard Fenrir ask him what his verdict was. "It's all newly refurbished over this side, so no re-wiring to be done, it will need some reprogramming.....Johnny said she can't fly so...I'll look over the engine a little later. Either there's a fault in the engine, or there's a fault in the connection to the engine. I don't want to fire it up until I know which." At the moment everything was running off an auxiliary battery, so they didn't need the engine on to run any of the electronics or controls inside.
"I'll prioritise looking over the engine, then I'll work on re-wiring your side of the cockpit so you can configure it.......Does that sound okay?" Back in their assigned bunk Fenrir had to Castor at least made it clear, he was in charge (though the navigator was used to being on equal footing with his fighter, he knew some fighters were more dominant,) so he wanted to make sure Fenrir was on board with how he was planning on getting their ship flight worthy again, he'd have told him anyway, but now it felt like he was more asking for permission instead of just saying what needed to be done.
Though really there was no point in getting the cockpit in working order, if they couldn't even fly.

"...Does that sound okay?"
Now it was Fenrir's turn to stifled an amused grunt. "You're the Navigator." He pointed out with a brief curve of the corner of his lip before he slid down the ladder to the deck. Fenrir didn't mind if the ship was out of order, he wasn't in any hurry to go flying into battle with the enemy. Not like some of the other Fighters that got off on pulling the trigger, Fenrir found his seduction for tactics and intelligence.
Fenrir rolled the lollipop around in his mouth with his tongue, it was clear that the impression that he had meant to give earlier had done it's trick. Despite his grumpy appearance his mood was improving quite a bit inwardly. He was out of the brig, his new partner seemed rather pleasant....and the universe was one asshole freer.
"I've got some things to take care of. Catch ya back at the bunk." He called out to Castor and began to walk away asserting his newly found freedom with the illusion of being dominant. Truth was, Fenrir couldn't care less about being dominant in the pair, he just wanted to be left alone. Being on the Alliance's leash was bearable at best and dealing with the rest of the Fighters had been a relatively easy task, but he had grown tired of being under someone's boot and he wasn't going to let it happen again.
He wasn't too quick to put distance between him and the hanger and he hadn't gotten very far when Odin had caught his eye. The older fighter beckoned him to follow him into the locker room and Fenrir did, thinking nothing of it. It wasn't until the giant fist was crashing into the side of his face as he rounded the row of lockers did he think something was wrong.
Fenrir stumbled backwards into the lockers behind him, the lollipop falling onto the floor, his grumpy expression not really changing much except now he had a growing bruise on his cheekbone.
"What the hell where you thinking?" Odin growled semi-quietly not really wanting to draw too much attention to themselves in the locker room.
"Brass wasn't going to stop him, so someone did." Fenrir was careful not to implicate himself in his former Navigator's murder. Fenrir wasn't about to try to strike Odin back. The older Fighter was a power house and build like a brick and Fenrir knew he would quickly lose if it came to a fist fight.
"Don't give me that shit. You've got people counting on you to come back. Why would you risk it?" Odin didn't seem as angry as he had when he had first hit the younger Fighter.
"Are we done?" Fenrir stubbornly replied reaching down to pick up the candy from the floor. "No, I want answers dammit." Odin's boot came down on the lollipop, crushing the sweet candy beyond rescue.
"Now you've gone too far." Fenrir feinted heartbreak and Odin had him by his collar banging him into the lockers.
"You little shit...Fine," The older Fighter released the younger one. "Be that way, but don't get yourself court-martialed." Odin poked him in the chest rather violently as he spoke. He gave Fenrir a friendly toss of his hair before walking out of the locker room leaving Fenrir inspecting the shiner that now graced his face in the mirror.

"You're the navigator."
That made Castor frown a little, mostly out of frustration. Castor's first impression was that Fenrir wanted to be the one who was in charge, but then goes and says that. Maybe he just didn't care how the ship got repaired. He stood up when he heard Fenrir sliding down the ladder. He almost protested, but in the end said nothing and just, sat back down again. He was almost done anyway. He'd leave the engine for another day. It wasn't late or anything, but he was still technically recovering.
With a sigh, he finished up what he was doing, before climbing out of the cockpit, and descending the ladder back down to the floor. He hoped things would work out with Fenrir. Shaking the thought from his head, he left the hanger.
Without even realising, he ended up walking himself to the medical bay. Before he knew it, he was staring through the glass, at Pollux. He was just laying there, almost like he was asleep. The guilt hit him like a wave, this was his fault. He needed to better. If he'd just been paying better attention, maybe he could have done something better. Even if Pollux woke up, there was no guarantee he'd be able to continue being a soldier. His injuries had been far worse that Castor's.
"You can't keep blaming yourself."
The voice made Castor jump. He turned around to see a fellow navigator, standing just inside the door. He was older than Castor, with scars going across his face, and eyes that didn't match. "You really like to live up to your task name don't you. I didn't hear you come in Ghost." The other navigator shrugged, pulling away from the wall and walking over to Castor.
"It's not hard to sneak up on people who aren't paying attention. How long to you plan to continue to blame yourself for this? You know it wasn't all you fault right? Do you understand that at least?" Ghost questioned, voice filled with concern.
"Some of the blame does still lay with me..." "The investigation is ongoing, we don't know everything yet." "But if I'd just reacted faster!" "Listen to me, these things, sometimes they happen. Accidents happen, and we are at war, people are going to get hurt, it's just the way of things out here."
There was a pause before Caster said, "I know..." Then after a little while longer. "I just want him to wake up, I know I probably won't get assigned back to him, even if he is still capable of being a fighter. I just want him to be okay Ghost."
The older navigator sighed. "Time will tell, but you need to look after yourself too." Another pause then, "So...You got reassigned?"
"Yeah, so a fighter named Fenrir.....I don't know what to make of him yet." Ghost bit his lip a little, he'd heard that name. There were few fighters who ended up with a reputation even among the navigators. There were plenty of rumours, so Ghost didn't know the truth, but he knew Castor wouldn't have heard them. He wasn't going to perpetrate thing when he didn't know how true they were, but the one fact was that fighter had spent some time in the brig, and his navigator was dead. "Be careful with that one Castor." Castro gave him an enquiring look. "I don't know what's going on with him, but just be careful.
"Okay, I will be," he said with a frown. "I should probably go."
"Okay, get some rest, you must still be healing right. You need to look after yourself too."
"I will," Castor said as he left the medical bay. Now his head was buzzing. Had something happened between Fenrir and his last navigator? He shook his head again, he shouldn't think about it, and he definitely shouldn't pry. He tried to banish the thoughts as he headed back to his room.
